Stepping into the bright, welcoming common room at Great Falls Senior Living this past weekend, our team faced an unexpected twist. Several of our usual performers were away on summer vacations, leaving our roster smaller than planned. Yet, rather than cutting our visit short, the five of us, Claire, Alice, Remi, myself, and Rose, decided to put all of our different skills together and play a lot of great music to make the whole afternoon fun and full of sound.
Instead of feeling like a rigid lineup where one person finishes and the next awkwardly begins, the music flowed naturally from one style into the next. Claire opened the afternoon with four songs then a duet with her piano teacher, sharing a lovely duet that set a warm tone in the room. Alice kept the music moving with a graceful shift into classical pieces, playing three contrasting works by Burgmuller and Berkovich that brought a bright energy to the space. Then, six-year-old Remi played five skilled songs on her cello. The seniors loved watching her perform. Following that, I played two songs by Beethoven. Rose went after that, and her music filled the whole room and wrapped up the afternoon nicely.
Even though we were missing half our group, everything blended together into a really nice concert for people who needed a cheerful weekend visit.This proves when small plans change, great moments can still happen. Our afternoon at Great Falls Assisted Living proved that a smaller team just means more music to share. We left with full hearts, smiling friends, and proof that a little teamwork makes every song sound sweeter.
