Last Saturday, Feb 24th, I had the chance to be one of the MCs at McLean Melody’s performance at Sunrise of McLean. It was a particularly memorable experience; not only was I able to get to know the musicians better, I also got to excite the elderly by introducing the amazing program. We had a variety of classical and contemporary piano pieces, two brilliant cello performances, a wonderful flute gig, and a stunning string trio playing “Spring” from “Vivaldi’s Four Seasons”.
The elderly and staff were warm and welcoming. When we arrived at the residence, the staff immediately brought us to the event location, helped us move chairs and invited their residents to the performance. The seniors were warm and some even wished us best of luck. After the performances, a few elderly came up to our group and complimented our music. They thanked us for coming and putting up a great show.
Before we left the residence, we had the honour of visiting one of the elderly to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to her. It was fun; the entire group was clapping and cheering for her. The wide smile on her face seemed to have brightened up the entire room. I hope we have made her birthday more special!
