It felt like the start of Thanksgiving week. Our music group went to Sunrise to perform, and the whole visit felt full of kindness, warmth, and the spirit of giving.
The room was decorated with fall colors—orange, red, and yellow leaves—just like the ones we see on Thanksgiving cards. When we walked in, some seniors were already smiling at us, that made us feel proud, like we were bringing a little Thanksgiving joy with us.
There were piano solos like “Innocent,” “Dance on the Lawn,” “Remembrance,” “Hollow,” and “Hellevator.” There were also winter songs like “Sleighbells in the Snow.” Some musicians were playing classical pieces like Mozart Sonata K283 and Concerto No. 5 in D Major. We also had new musicians from Basis Independent McLean join us, and it made the concert even more special because they performed beautiful pieces like “La Vie en Rose” and “Make You Feel My Love.” I watched the seniors while my friends played, and I could tell they were really enjoying the music.
As we walked out, I felt proud and thankful. We didn’t bring food like pumpkin pie or turkey, but we brought music—and somehow, that felt just as special.
