The last time I went to a senior center to perform for them was 10/19, and I went to Chestbrook Residence. This was only my 3rd time going, but I had started to get a feel for it. I chose to play Sonata in C Minor because I was used to that piece, and had played it numerous times, so I wasn’t worried about performing it. The next song I played was Table Music for Two. I hadn’t practiced this song before, but I quickly got familiar with it, and was ready to perform.
Playing cello in front of a bunch of senior citizens is not something I’m new to. I had joined an orchestra called AYPO, and had spent time there playing there, and we would have a big concert every now and then. I am glad that I went there to get some experience playing in front of a crowd of people, because that means that when I play for the senior citizens, I get to focus more on my playing, and less on worrying about people looking at me.
I enjoy playing for these senior citizens because they are very kind, and I feel that they have served our community in their time of youth, and now that they are older, it is only right for us to give them something that they enjoy. I remember when I went to Chestbrook Residence, after we were all done with our pieces, one very kind former piano teacher couldn’t help but congratulate us profusely on how well we played. I thought this was really nice, because I was glad they enjoyed our music. I also remember how many of the seniors wanted to know when the next concert was, because they enjoyed it so much, and that really warmed my heart.
Closing, I wish that I can play more beautiful pieces of music for many other senior citizens, and hope that they will enjoy the music just as much as others did.
