From Mistake to Mastery: A Lesson in Confidence

I participated in the concerto competition last weekend and it was an unforgettable experience that taught me a lot about perseverance and preparation.

When I sat in front of the piano, I was filled with nervousness, and during my performance, I made a mistake and played the wrong key. For a moment, I felt a wave of panic. However, I didn’t stop; I kept going, and I’m proud of myself for pushing through.

The reason I was able to recover was the hard work I had put into practicing. I knew this piece well enough and gave me confidence. Another factor that helped me was the many opportunities I’ve had to play in front of others. I often participate in volunteer activities organized by Mclean Melody at senior residence to play piano. Performing in front of audiences helped me get used to managing fright and staying composed under pressure.

This experience showed me that mistakes are a natural part of learning and performing. What matters most is how you respond to them. I now feel more motivated to continue practicing and I’m excited to participate in future volunteering activities with even greater confidence.
