August Concert at Brightview, Great Falls

August 9, 2025

Our first concert in August was a success! On a bright and sunny Saturday morning, we performed at one of our frequently visited senior homes in Great Falls. We had a wonderful program prepared with a variety of different instruments, and the audience was amazing. Overall, the atmosphere was warm and inviting and I hope everyone enjoyed sharing music with others.

This particular concert was a bit different from the others I have been to, mainly because it was my first time hosting a performance for Mclean Melody. In the late summer months before school when everyone is out for vacation, there are few volunteers who are around to perform. However, bringing music to the community is really important to our organization, so we strive to remain on schedule with concerts. I took up the position as host for this concert knowing my responsibilities in making sure everything ran smoothy.

At first, gathering enough members was a struggle for me. We had a very limited amount of volunteers, only about 7, which was significantly less than some of our other concerts. I reached out to the volunteers and tried to encourage them to play more than one piece, so that our program could be a little longer. In addition, I also wrote down the program and applied it to a template. Before I knew it, it was the day of the concert.

I got there bright and early to set up our poster and the microphone, and there were already many seniors who had showed up to our performance! They were all very welcoming and seemed excited for the show. As the other volunteers slowly trickled in, I began passing out programs and got ready to introduce the concert.

Public speaking isn’t too hard for me, but it’s definitely not my forte either, so this experience really helped me gain confidence in myself, even if it was simply a few sentences. I’m glad that I persevered through my struggles at the beginning, because this was a great experience that made me feel more connected to the community and our organization.

Thank you to all the members who performed in this concert! I am especially grateful for those who stepped up to play a few more pieces. The concert would not be a success without everyone pitching in.
